Thomas Newton (d. 1873) emigrated to the U.S. in 1822 from Yorkshire County (England). His brother, William, soon followed. The brothers lived in Henrietta (Monroe County, N.Y.) near Rochester. Eventually they became wealthy men. William's will mentions his daughters: Martha N. Short (d. by 1924), M. Frances Newton, Carrie D. Hinds, Ella N. Mellars, Alice N. DeWitt, grandson, Harold C.
